Using the latest fabrics from across the world, and offering an unparalleled range of curtain pole and track hardware to compliment.

Pinch pleat and Ripplefold draperies are two of the most common types of draperies used in a variety of applications. Although both create flowing designs, they are constructed with different methods and work well in different situations so we thought we’d look at each in a little more detail to demonstrate this.

Ripplefold drapes, known for their elegant simplicity, offer a unique curtain style that is both versatile and aesthetically pleasing. These drapes are meticulously crafted, starting with the fabric, which is sewn flat and hemmed on all sides. To create the distinctive ripple effect, snap tape is expertly applied to the heading. This snap tape features strategically placed snaps every few inches, determining the size and spacing of the ripples. The beauty of ripplefold drapes lies in their adaptability – you can adjust the ripple size by manipulating how open or closed the curtain is on the traverse rod.

When it comes to fabric selection for Ripplefold drapes, the choices are abundant. Both lightweight and heavyweight fabrics complement this style exceptionally well. However, for optimal results and to ensure that the elegant folds hold their shape gracefully, it is advisable to opt for fabrics with memory. These fabrics have the remarkable ability to retain their pleats, lending a crisp and polished appearance to your window treatment.

One remarkable characteristic of Ripplefold drapes is their remarkable ability to harmonize with various design styles. The casual and unpretentious nature of these drapes makes them an ideal choice for a wide range of settings, from cosy residences to sophisticated commercial spaces. For a particularly graceful look, sheer curtains pair exquisitely with the wave-like folds of Ripplefold drapes, creating a gentle and flowing ambiance.

On the other hand, pinch pleat drapes present a wholly different charm. They are particularly well-suited to heavier, more formal fabrics, owing to the intricacies of their design. The purpose of pinch pleats is not solely aesthetic; they also serve to conceal the hooks used to hang the drapes. Heavier fabrics offer the necessary stiffness to maintain a well-defined pleat, a feat lightweight fabrics may struggle to achieve. Traditional patterns, such as florals or stripes, find a natural home with pinch pleat drapes, enhancing the overall formal and structured appearance.

Creating pinch pleat drapes involves skilfully gathering two to six folds of fabric at the top of the curtain. These pleats are then securely sewn at the base, allowing the rest of the curtain to gracefully cascade beneath. Uniform in size and spacing, pinch pleats produce a tailored and formal aesthetic. Fabric tape is often incorporated within the pleat to add stiffness and create an elegant fan-like effect at the top. These drapes, meticulously hemmed on all sides and sometimes anchored with weights at the bottom, epitomize a sense of timeless sophistication.

At RJS Interiors, we understand that choosing the right drapery, fabric, and hardware is a crucial decision that reflects your unique style and preferences.
